Mysore – weekend with trainees

17.09.2022
Because Mysore, unlike our previous destinations, is „only“ a 3.5 hour drive away, we were able to spend the night before Saturday in our own bed for once. But in the morning we therefore started even earlier. Shortly before 4 a.m. our alarm clocks rang and we made our way to the Majestic railway station in the city center, still half asleep. There we waited for the two trainees who will join us this weekend, Paniraj and Arjun.

We reached Mysore at about 10 am and were greeted by bright sunshine when we got off the train. Next it was time to leave our suitcases at the hotel, put on our sunglasses and head for breakfast! We had traditional dosa in an inconspicuous and small restaurant, which is hidden in a side street. Despite the location, there were a surprising number of people on site. As it turned out, the „Vinayaka Mylari“ was very famous for its dosa and idly. A woman sitting across from us told us that she had come all the way from Bangalore just to eat here once. Also from us the Dosa gets a 10/10! Then we made our way to the zoo of Mysore. Here we just let the pictures speak for us!

For lunch, we stopped at a mall before going back to the hotel to check in. After a break, which Sascha and Ramon used for a massage in the hotel’s spa, we then visited St. Philomenas Cathedral. Afterwards we went on to Chamundi Hills, where we visited a large temple with a very beautiful interior. On the way back we had a fabulous view of Mysore at night! To round off the day, we had a delicious dinner at the Gufha restaurant recommended by Ravindra.

After having breakfast at the hotel, we then headed to Mysore Palace, the main attraction of the city. With an audio guide that gave us some background on the history, we started exploring the palace. The large halls covered in magnificent murals, which by the way are still used from time to time for various rituals, were extremely impressive for us.

For lunch we went to the vegetarian „Om Shanthi“ restaurant. Strengthened, we then made our way to a bird house with a bonsai garden where we could admire parrots and other birds of all kinds. For a few rupees we were even allowed to feed them ourselves, which was definitely a highlight!

As the day was already coming to an end, after the short stay in the bonsai garden we already had to make our way back to the train station in order to reach our train in time.
