7360km to Bangalore

July 30th 2022
The wait is over! We can finally start our stay abroad in Bangalore, India. With packed suitcases in tow, we set off early Saturday evening accompanied by our families to the airport in Zurich. Now it’s time to say goodbye for the next three months. We all agree: Exciting days with hopefully many new and great experiences are waiting for us!

Check-In at Zurich Airport – Ramon Hug, Sascha Jäger, Damian Demiraj, Sandro Lenz (from left to right)

We were almost on the plane when something unexpected happened. Ramon was told that his Covid certificate consisting of recovery and one vaccination, which is considered „fully-vaccinated“ in Switzerland and many other countries, was not sufficient. In order for the flight, i.e., the entry to India, to be approved, he would have to be able to show an additional, current, negative PCR test. Since this was the only way and we did not want to lose any time, we immediately went to the test centre. Time was now running against us, the check-in for our flight to Dubai will close in a little more than half an hour. All we could do was wait and hope for a negative test result soon.

Then finally the good news. Ramon’s PCR test result was negative, and so he could also check in – just in time! The first stress test was mastered and as we all stood together at our gate, we were relieved and had to smile: Whatever may come up next, it won’t get us out of our calm so easily 🙂

The journey itself, the flight with Emirates to Bangalore including a stopover with breakfast at Dubai airport, then went smoothly. To our astonishment, the security checks and the infamous identity check at the Bangalore airport were also short-lived. A first big praise goes to our local representative, Ravindra, who had organized the transport from the airport to our apartment in an excellent way. Gaganraj and Prajwal, two trainees of the BBAN Academy, accompanied us by private bus to our accommodation. On the way, we made a small stop at Subway and ate dinner together. Despite the chaotic and for us unfamiliar city traffic compared to Switzerland, our first impression of India is very positive. We quickly made friends with the extremely nice trainees and are already looking forward to meeting Ravindra and the other trainees tomorrow!
